Music & Memory

Music & Memory

Jill’s House is fortunate to have multiple partnerships with Indiana University which give our residents opportunities to learn, help students, and develop new kinds of relationships. With the help of technology such as Alexa current interns are developing play lists for residents that can be shared with all in the living room. Some of our residents are participating in the my buddy research project out of IUPUI. Many residents are enjoying virtual reality sessions with IU School of public health. We are engaged in several studies looking at how robots can positively affect the lives of seniors. We have 2 doctoral students looking at how intergenerational relationships can affect socialization amongst children. It’s phenomenal the amount of opportunities each new class of IU students  bring to our community.

Music & Memory at Jill’s House has an intergenerational twist. We partnered with Dr. Jennie Gubner, when she was Professor of Ethnomusicology at Indiana University for this experience. As part of the Music & Memory course that Dr. Gubner taught, students met with individuals living at Jill’s House and their families to get to know them and most specifically their music preferences. The students set up iPods for the residents and taught them how to use the devices. They created short films about their experience.
